Rob Jerrard's life is the epitome  of an ordinary underprivileged boy from Portsmouth who survived mountains of snobbery from those of privilege but who took life in his stride and even with not a single GCE O Level to his name, went on to succeed in his life  by determined study for GCE Ordinary Level examinations in his own time, encouraged by the Navy. During his twelve years in the Navy, Rob Jerrard also learnt a great deal about deep sea diving and about electronic engineering and radar systems and computing.

He decided to apply for a position at the City of London police after twelve years in the Navy and he was successful. 

Under his own steam he continued to pursue education at night school and eventually reached the stage  of higher education. Rob Jerrard studied for a law degree part-time at evening classes and eventually gained his Bachelor of Law degree (LLB) and continued studying whilst being employed as a Police Officer in the City of London police Constabulary. This is the most difficult type of academic undertaking, with a full-time job, family and the pressure of university degree law examinations.

He decided to continue on to study part-time and gained a Masters degree in Law (LLM). (He also later took evening courses in computing after all these years of work and study and private life). A Masters University Degree teaches one to 'critically analyse'. Some people think that all police officers must hold at least an undergraduate degree, by which one has learnt to focus on a topic with discipline and attention to detail. 

Rob Jerrard also took several police promotion examinations and was successful and was promoted to Police Inspector.
